The Soundtrack to Tex
Tex draws together some big players in the comic book industry for the pursuit of one goal: keeping George W. Bush from being president again. Head writer Josh Dysart (Image's Violent Messiahs; DC's Swamp Thing), writer Brad Kayl (Arch Angel's Red Star), publisher/writer Mike Wellman (Atomic Basement's Mac Afro, Gone South; Aerosol Press' Mocha Jones), artist Brad Rader (DC's Catwoman; Flaming Artist's True Adult Fantasy; artist Tony Salmons (DC's Batman: Legend of the Dark Knight; Marvel's Dakota North); artist Alan Gladfelter (Comic Culture); creator Carol Lay (Way Lay); and artist Guy LeMay (Atomic Basement's Gone South) have teamed up to create one of the most biting and critical satires of Bush to date. The comic features the thief himself--clad in his air suit greens, sporting a ten-gallon hat, ornamented with corporate logos, a smug grin pasted under his vacuous eyes--going out into the world to do what he does best… turning the world into his vision of it. The comic book will premiere at Comicon in San Diego, the nation's largest comic convention, and will be available in comic stores nationwide.
Inspired by this effort, Chimaera Records, in collaboration with the Los Angeles-based band Jacaranda, has produced a fitting soundtrack, replete with calls to vote, musical parodies and educated rants by the creators of the comic book. It is an album to be loved by every freedom-loving fan of true democracy and a great addendum to a powerful comic book.
